Terracotta

The structure of this lamp is extremely simple and traditional. It has a sturdy appearance and a semi-circular shape with the curved part resting on the base. Seen from the front, the lamp consists of a lightly worked slab of terracotta. Much of the surface is rough, with numerous thin grooves running along the inside and inscriptions in Hebrew on the outer right side. The nine candle holders, also made of terracotta, are arranged on the horizontal upper surface, where the shamash is easily recognisable by its raised support. The form of this work is reminiscent of pregnancy, of the rounded and maternal shape of the female body.
