Acrylic on canvas, wood, glass and tea lights
This work bears the hallmarks of optical painting. Stripes painted on the canvas in three shades of purple suggest the eight arms of a candelabrum. The arms proliferate downwards in a repeated pattern incorporating copper, pale-orange and white elements. The image is enclosed in a frame of white lacquered wood. On top of the frame, in line with the painted arms, are positioned glass candle holders containing eight purple-bordered, copper-coloured wax candles. The shamash, pale orange with a copper border, is set at the centre.
