Lampada di Chanukkah
34 x 33 x 12 cm
Stoneware pottery, wood, acrylic paint
This piece uses a mixture of materials. An industrial tile – stoneware with on-glaze, gold and platinum decoration – is housed in a wooden box frame-cum-support. The shamash is set on the base in the form of a wax candle. The artist’s work can almost always be traced back to an exploration of the “sea”. For instance, the eight lights needed for the consecration of Hanukkah are represented by a picture of the lines and chains of a ship’s hawser. The chains, a constant motif in his work, represent the continuity between the witness-shamash, and the light of the festival.
