Ceramic pottery
The material is the earth itself, that is, the soft, malleable clay with which ceramics are made. A half ellipse of dark, gleaming shades sits atop a rectangular box, the shamash inserted in its centre. The eight smaller Hanukkah candles are placed inside the rectangular base. The work represents the freedom of thought in its loftiest sense, the freedom to make use of the intellect, without restraints, to express one’s credo without suffering violence nor any limit other than the laws of morality and respect for the freedom of others – all of this through the interior light that each person must find inside themselves.
