Oil on board
Personal creation

The artwork consists of a traditional oil painting in rationalist geometric style on a 1 cm thick marine plywood board, inserted in a structure that makes it self-supporting. The title, Philosophical Butterfly, refers to the initiatory meaning of the Butterfly symbol, which from a crawling insect, a caterpillar, turns into a flying one. The “body” of the butterfly is designed as a burning hanukkiah with the central arm functioning as the shamash, to which the “wings” converge as rays from the outside. The artwork focuses on parts of the design which cannot be understood as a single figure, the wings, and the central axis, thus creating a spiritual whole idealized in the hanukkiah.
