Egeo

27 x 86 x 38 cm

Walnut wood, pure gold foil and flamed gold leaf, resin and beeswax

The title of this work, which resembles an ancient ship, is Egeo (Aegean), the name of the sea the Greeks crossed to profane the Temple, later freed by the Maccabees. The main structure is a pre-existing hollowed-out hull (dating back to 1957) made from walnut wood. It consists of four sturdy semi-circular beams running from side to side of the boat. The artist has placed the eight candles at the top of these, while the bow appears as a monstrous face.
