The work consists of a black wooden frame around a panel with a brown monochrome background featuring hints of gold, leaves and multi-coloured flowers. Towards the top of the painting is a large pink bird outlined in yellow. A child is riding on its back, clinging to the bird’s long neck. The bird is carrying a phial of golden oil in its beak. Nine imitation candles are attached to the lower edge of the frame, each one a different colour. The shamash, which is black, is at the far right, some distance from the others.
