New Board and new President for the Jewish Community

Daria Carmi is the new president. The elected Council also includes Adriana Ottolenghi (vice president) and Elena Ghiron.

Casale Monferrato, May 28, 2024 – New Council and new President for the Jewish Community of Casale Monferrato, which held on Sunday, May 26, elections for the renewal of offices. An all-female governing body composed of Adriana Ottolenghi Torre, Elena Ghiron and Daria Carmi was appointed.

On Monday, May 27, the same council appointed Daria Carmi as president and renewed Adriana Ottolenghi Torre as vice president.

It was a choice in continuity with the intellectual legacy of Elio Carmi, whom his daughter Daria accompanied from her youth on that path capable of transforming the small Monferrato Community into an extraordinary place of culture and coexistence. Daria succeeds her father, who passed away in January 2024, bringing to Salomone Olper Alley her considerable experience as curator of many international art projects. And she is the first female president in the history of this Community.

“I take on this task in doubly difficult times for us members of the Jewish Community of Casale Monferrato ,” he declares, ‘ we find ourselves living in a world in conflict and we have just lost the leadership of my father, Elio Carmi z.l. Among the quotes he loved to repeat most often today I am reminded of Rabbi Tarfon’s phrase conveyed in the Pirkei Avot: ’It is not up to you to do the work, but you are not free to shirk from it.’ I succeed him in office with this awareness and the will to continue building the present of this small but important community while looking to the future. I thank the members for their high turnout in voting and Adriana Ottolenghi Torre and Elena Ghiron for their willingness to work together. Their advice and suggestions, will be crucial for me.”

The new president began her tenure by meeting with Noemi Di Segni, president of theUnion of Italian Jewish Communities, in whose council Daria Carmi will assume the role held by Father representing the Casale Community; with Roberto Gabei, president of the Casale Jewish Foundation ETS, who confirmed the full relationship between the two institutions; and with Rav Ariel Finzi as the reference rabbi. Discussions are also planned in the coming weeks with secular authorities in the area.
