Patinated bronze
The lamp consists of nine patinated bronze elements arranged side by side and equally spaced. The shamash is at the far right and is made of oxidised copper. Each part reproduces the shape of the letter lamed, the middle letter of the Hebrew alphabet, represented as “solidified space”, enclosed in the hand that holds the lamp with the fingerprints and furrows of the fingers that grasp it. The base is a horse’s hoof and the modular reiteration represents a ride on horseback. The letter lamed also gives an idea of interiority, associated with the word lev (heart) in which lamed is the first letter.
