The composition is inspired by the constituent elements of the lamp: the nine pieces evoke the image of a tiny, painted city arranged along a single street – represented by the horizontal arm – but which follows an irregular rhythm. The shamash is placed at the far left and and balances the composition, being larger and taller than the other elements. The whole assemblage sits on a horizontal base running parallel to the lamp’s two arms.
