Shalom Birkat Cohanim
74 x 52 x 24 cm
Digital print on laser-cut, anodised aluminium, steel
This lamp draws its inspiration from a number of symbolic elements in the Jewish tradition. At the top, the word Shalom is written in Hebrew characters. The two hands adopt the the attitude of the priestly benediction, Birkat Cohanim. Within their outlines are scattered yet more Hebrew characters, and at their centres are eyes to ward off evil. The base bears the phrase nes gadol (great miracle), which is recited during the festival of Hanukkah. The candle holder is fashioned from anodised aluminium, with the candles fixed to the base with magnets. The shamash is set apart at the far end of the base and is raised a little higher than the other candles.
