Chanukkah lamp
58 x 95 x 25 cm
Iron, wood, painted cloth
The materials from which the lamp is made generate contrasts of colour, texture and substance. The iron structure establishes a geometric take on the classic hanukkiah. The deliberate choice of blue and red candles pays homage to the artist’s homeland, the United States. The rags of cloth allude to the figure of the ragand- bone man, one of the few jobs permitted to European Jews in the areas where they were allowed to settle.
