Glazed ceramic, wax, Plexiglas
The work takes the form of a Plexiglas container into which the iconic, glazed-ceramic forms of the lamps are inserted. The lamps are further embellished with wax and on-glaze decorations of pure gold, except for the shamash, which is entirely ceramic. The shamash is placed in the centre, its function as an object clearly identifiable. The candles of the other Hanukkah lights are tipped in beeswax. Thus, the artist establishes a link to the Courtyard of Bees in the Jewish Museum complex in Casale Monferrato.
