Gianmario Albiati
Chanukkià
4 x 70 x 30 cm
Untreated sheet metal, stainless steel
Updating the Dadaist language of the readymade as a form of creative recycling, Albiati recovers the detritus of the everyday and, by manipulating it, reinvents its meaning. Spoons double up as shells, their handles tails, acquiring, in this way, a semblance of biological life. The largest “shell” leads the other eight, marking and opening the way for them – spoons that, in their new guise, are not so much holders as reflectors of light.
