Oak wood
The artwork consists of a landscape carved in wood evoking an imaginary community gathered around a concave center, a valley. The buildings are houses and temples, open and facing outwards. Light is represented by the interior; energy is the fulcrum. The shamash candle is the highest, placed at the center, virtually on a movable rock. This small rural town with its houses and temples, has the magical and “ finite” character of Italo Calvino’s invisible cities. It shares their dreamlike dimension and connects with the child in us by evoking memories, emotions, and sensations, thus taking us back to childhood, home, family, and community.
